Floating water intake
Floating water intake on the Nile. Gebel Shisha, Aswan.
A fixed intake fails when the river level changes. A floating intake rises and falls with the water, so the pumps always draw from the right depth.
The pontoon carries the pumps, pipework and their loads, and stays stable and moored against the current year round.
